It is with profound sadness that we honor the life and legacy of Mark J. Byerley, Sr., President and CEO of Tinker & Rasor and a beloved member of the Tinker & Rasor family.
Mark passed away on July 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy that extends far beyond the company he led. For more than five decades, Mark dedicated his life to the corrosion industry, advancing innovation, education, mentorship, and service while building lasting relationships with colleagues, customers, and professionals around the world.
Mark began working at Tinker & Rasor at the age of 15 alongside his father, Darrel D. Byerley. What began as a summer job became a lifelong career. In 2001, Mark became majority shareholder, President, and CEO of Tinker & Rasor, continuing the company's tradition of leadership and excellence in the corrosion industry.
His influence extended well beyond Tinker & Rasor. Mark served as NACE International President from 2009–2010, taught technical training courses, presented at industry events around the world, and mentored countless professionals throughout his career. He believed deeply in sharing knowledge and investing in the next generation of corrosion professionals.
Those who knew Mark will remember not only his professional accomplishments, but his generosity, adventurous spirit, sense of humor, and genuine care for the people around him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, colleague, mentor, and friend, and he took great pride in the relationships he built throughout his life.
Continuing Mark's Legacy
Mark believed strongly in giving back to the profession he dedicated his life to. In his memory, the Mark J. Byerley, Sr. Scholarship Fund will continue supporting the development of future coatings and corrosion professionals.
The fund supports the Annual AMPP Eagle Ford Chapter Mark J. Byerley, Sr. Scholarship, the Annual Corrosion Technician Association Mark J. Byerley, Sr. Scholarship, and other continuing education initiatives supporting the next generation of coatings and corrosion control professionals.
As scholarship recipients are announced in the years ahead, we look forward to sharing their stories here and continuing Mark's commitment to education, mentorship, and the future of the profession.
Mark's passing leaves an immeasurable void for his family, the Tinker & Rasor team, and the countless people whose lives he touched. His legacy lives on through the people he mentored, the relationships he cultivated, the industry he helped shape, and the future professionals whose education will be supported in his name.
His example of leadership, generosity, integrity, and service will remain an enduring part of the Tinker & Rasor family.
