1.INSPECTION Inspection shouldbe performed upon receipt. If damage has occurred in shipment, file a claimwith the carrier immediately. It is necessary to contact your supplieror Tinker & Rasor, be sure to include all information such as serialnumber, purchase order number and invoice number. 2.GENERAL INFORMATION Application ofthe Model QC: The Model QC maybe connected to either the input or output side of the cathodic protectioncircuit. Note: Observe rating limits shown I the specifications. It isnot necessary to observe polarity with output terminals. WARNING: Donot connect the interrupter to the DC output side of rectifiers that havean efficiency transformer. Always interrupt the AC (input) circuit. The Model QC hasTwo Timing Ranges: With the slide switchin the X1 position the complete timing cycle is 30 seconds as shown onthe label on top of the unit. A 15 second completecycle is available by placing the slide switch in the + 2 position. Actualinterruption times are shown on the same label. Relay ContactPositions: Relay is "OPEN"under the following conditions: 1. When the power switch is in the "OFF" position. 2. During the second portion of the operating cycle. Relay is "CLOSED"under the following conditions: 1. When the power switch is in the "ON" position and the operate/resetswitch is in the "RESET" position. 2. During the first portion of the operating cycle. Interrupter PowerSources: - Uses 12 volt lanternbattery.
- Interrupter is deliveredwith a standard 12 lantern battery; but any external D.C. source between10 VDC and 15 VDC may be used if desired.
- See battery information.
3.PANEL SWITCH & INDICATOR Switches: - Operate/reset switch:Place in "RESET" position.
- Slide switch: X1 position.
- Power ON/OFF switch:"ON" position, this will close the relay contact.
- Select timing cycledesired from the label to coincide with position on the rotary switch.
- Start timing by switchingOPERATE/RESET toggle to OPERATE. Using an accurate time source, starttiming on exact 30-second times. The Model QC is at least as accurate asa good watch during its operation.
First portion of timingcycle is with relay contacts closed. For a shorter operating cycle, placeslide switch in + 2 position. Two or more ModelQC Current Interrupters may be synchronized by starting on any exact time. Indicator: Meter: Providesa continuous readout of the battery conditions. Battery should be replacedif pointer falls in "REPLACE" area. Terminal Lugs: The terminal lugsare the rugged, heavy duty copper SLU type, rated at 70 amperes. Versatilityand convenience permit both lug and clamping type connections. Polarityof terminals is unimportant. 4.BATTERY INFORMATION Battery performanceis related to the following factors: Duration of theTiming Cycles: The shorter the"RELAY CLOSED" time, the longer will be the useful battery life. Typicallyup to 40 hours or longer. Minimum AvailableVoltage: When the batteryvoltage falls below nine volts, there may not be enough power availableto operate the relay. Note: Meterindications within the "OK" area do not forecast remaining operating hours. Ambient Temperatures: At 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the battery delivers less than 50% of its energy. At 22 degrees Fahrenheit, the battery may not deliver enough energy to operate the Interrupter. (Atthese temperatures, an automotive 12 volt battery can be used). Do notexceed 15 volts. Note: Additionalbattery information is available from Tinker & Rasor Installation Procedures: When replacing thebattery, observe polarity (red = positive, black = negative). Reversedpolarity will cause the meter needle to deflect to the left, off-scale,indicating an improper connection. The Model QC will not be harmed by sucha connection, but it will not operate. Use only 12 voltbatteries such as: - Burgess #TW2-X or #TW2
- RCA #VS342
- Eveready #732
It is useful to carryan extra battery when working in remote field locations. 5.MAINTENANCE The Current Interrupterdoes not require maintenance other than occasional battery replacement.Normal care is use and storage will give many years of trouble-free service. However, should the Current Interrupter require factory service. . .seebelow. 6.SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS All instruments being returned for repair
